| Research and Scholarly Efforts
Recent grant applications from faculty members have focused
on avoiding missed opportunities for immunization and studying
parental preferences for alternative immunizations schedules.
Recent research presentations by faculty members have included
the cost effectiveness of varicella vaccine, deficiencies
in math skills of housestaff, new methods of evaluating medical
student performance in pediatric clerkships and the use of
computers as teaching methods for common pediatric topics.
Many of the completed studies have been published or are
currently in preparation. The department's hematology-oncology
physicians are active members in the research protocols and
drug studies of the Children's Cancer Group, a multi-center
group of pediatric cancer treatment centers. Other faculty
are starting projects concerning cost effectiveness of bacterial
antigen assays, EEG biofeedback on immune function and therapeutic
trials for non-infectious, non-specific diarrheal disease
in children.
