Department of Psychiatry
Welcome to our web site!
This is an exciting time for the field of psychiatry, as it
is for all of academia. In response to recent advances in
the neurosciences and the further evolution of the health
care industry, we are reinventing the department and the services
we offer our patients. During this process, we have endeavored
to discover what is right and true, while at the same time
purging that which is antiquated, unnecessary or unwanted.
This progressive ideology is our guiding force and is reflected
in the delivery of our clinical services and in the training
of our students.
Over the past several years, considerable effort has been
directed at developing more mental health services, which
will better serve the Rockford area. Departmental teaching
and research missions have been incorporated into the design
of these plans. As a result, new training sites are now operational,
providing superb clinical experiences for third-year medical
students completing their psychiatric clerkship. Building
on this success, new fourth year electives are now being offered
with additional opportunities planned for the near future.
Future directions for the department include the development
of on-campus outpatient specialty clinics, a mind-body therapy
center and a regional consultation service utilizing a multidisciplinary
approach and videoconferencing technology. Further computerization
of our clinic is planned, including electronic record keeping
and scheduling, as well as in-house video and CD production
for educational purposes. The future of this website includes
additional links to informational resources on the Internet
for our patients and colleagues to access, as well as inclusion
of our soon-to-be-developed mental health newsletter for Rockford-area
clinicians.
