The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford
is a World
Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center in
Educational Development of Health Professionals and
Health Care Systems.
As a part of that collaboration, terms of reference
were completed to recognize the College of Medicine
at Rockford as an international leader in medical education. |
|
The terms of reference outline the College of Medicine's
role as follows:
Collaborate with Member States in their efforts
to conceptualize, implement, and evaluate educational reforms
in the preparation of future health practitioners as consonant
with WHO Resolution, "Reorientating medical education and
medical practice for all."
Further develop the existing partnership
for undertaking evaluation studies on mutually agreed areas,
especially on topics identified in the new WHO Resolution,
"Reorientating medical education and medical practice for
all."
Offer an international training program for
those institutions seeking to create outpatient/ambulatory
community medicine clinics with longitudinal training characteristics,
innovative curriculum, and defined outcomes.
Further develop a model for medical education
which trains physicians/health care providers for medical
practice in rural, underserved locations. This will involve
admission criteria, curricular process, and graduation of
knowledge, skills, and attitudes to allow the health care
provider to function effectively and efficiently in the rural
underserved environment.
Further work towards the development of an
electronic matrix which would serve the WHO and the international
community as a resource allowing for monitoring international
collaboration among medical schools and other instituions
in the areas of reform in medical education and medical practice,
highlighted in the 18 priority areas defined in the global
conference held in Rockford, June 1994.
Work with other Collaborating Centers on
the initiative "Defining and Measuring Social Accountability
of Medical Schools".
