Research Support Services

The Office for Research Support Services promotes and supports academic and administrative research efforts and administers pre-award activities involving all grants (research, education, training, public service) within the various departments and programs at Rockford. Pre-award grant activity includes assisting students in identifying research interests and matching them with interested faculty, searching a variety of publications, directories, and web sites related to health care and health sciences for new funding opportunities, providing application forms and interpreting the standards and regulations of the funding agencies; reviewing and editing all application forms and budgets relative to funding agency and University policies. The office provides in-depth consultation for those first-time investigators who need help in putting together a grant application.

Rockford Library of Health Sciences

The UIC Library of the Health Sciences at Rockford (Crawford Medical Library) offers numerous services and resources to faculty, staff and students physically located at the College of Medicine at Rockford as well as those located in affiliated off-site clinics, hospitals and at home.


Library staff offer assistance in locating books and journals in the Library and beyond its walls and help users identify databases relevant to their research, teaching, and/or class assignments. Reference staff provide one-on-one assistance in searching library databases and provide in-depth consultation regarding research. Health Systems Research

Health Systems Research, a census affiliate, serves faculty, students, health care providers, human services agencies and other community organizations throughout Illinois with demographic, health, social and economic data. Click for more info on Health Systems Research

Basic Biomedical Research

Areas of expertise include central nervous system and cardiovascular pharmacology, theoretical biophysics, chemical carcinogenesis and gene expression, virology, parasitology, electrophysiology and cell biology and signal transduction. Research is funded through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other national agencies, private foundations, state agencies, international organizations and private industry.
